大意是,一个叫理查德的小男孩,5岁的时候,父亲死了,接着母亲也死了,然后你必须要独自一个人生活,为了生活他帮一个有钱人工作.有个老妇人为他感到遗憾所以常常帮助他.理查德很想上学,但是没有钱,不过他从没有放弃学习的心态所以从附近的学习找来一些旧的书本来使它可以读写.
在两山间有一条小路联通他们的乡村和小镇,有一天,人们发现一块很大的石头在路中挡住了路,他们必须搬开它,否则的话他们到镇上就必须穿过山林了.但是这石头至少三十吨重所以没有人能搬开它,人们讨论了好久,但是不知道该怎么做.
这时候,理查德仔细地观察一下石头就说他有一个搬走石头的办法,但是很少人相信他,甚至有人嘲笑他.天黑了,人们都回去了,只留下理查德在哪里.第二天人们就惊讶的发现石头不见了,他们不知道谁把石头搬走了,而那个老妇人说是理查德.
那个有钱人就大喊他怎么做到的,他只是十五岁,他不能搬动它
