音标[l]有两种读音,一是清晰的舌边音,类似“了”的读音,常见于单词开头以及l后是元音的情况,如like,blind,lie.
另一种则是模糊舌边音,读如“欧”,常见于单词末尾和l后面跟辅音的情况,如able,real,ball,oil,self,help,wild等.
为了区分这两个读音,有的字典将舌边音标作[l]上加一斜杠类似“ɫ”,或在下面加一点,类似"!".
